De nuevo con Tony Bennett
Esta semana voy a repetirme.
De nuevo vamos con Tony Bennett, que a sus 92 años acaba de lanzar un nuevo album, esta vez a dúo con la pianista y cantante canadiense, Diana Krall. También aparecen mezclados algunos temas que grabaron hace más tiempo. Los vas a distinguir sin dificultad.
Desde hace años, Bennett viene grabando dúos con cantants que podrían ser sus niets y que lo veneran como un maestro incomparable. Elijo un par de los que más me gustan. Primero y principal, con la impresionante Amy Winehouse. Tony Bennett se proponía grabar un álbum completo con ella cuando supo de su muerte, a los 27 años. No pudo contener el llanto. Sólo quedó esta joya.
También con Lady Gaga, K.D. Lang y Sheryl Crow.
Lo fascinante con Tony Bennett es su tratamiento de las letras y esto es ostensible en los temas que grabó en 1975 con el imponente pianista Bill Evans. Escuchalos con atención y después me contás. Te agrego las letras, para que compruebes lo que te digo. Podés pedirle que te las traduzca al doctor Google, que lo está haciendo pasablemente.

Tal vez su amigo Frank Sinatra haya tenido una voz más perfecta, pero sus interpretaciones carecen de la intensidad de las de Tony Bennet, quien consigue transmitir que eso que cuenta le está ocurriendo a él en ese mismo momento. Sólo me pasa lo mismo con Billie Holiday y Edith Piaf. El primero en reconocerlo fue el propio Sinatra, quien lo llamó el mejor de nosotros, lo mismo que Faulkner dijo de Thomas Wolfe (el auténtico Tom Wolfe, el autor de Del tiempo y del río, no el cajetilla del traje blanco).
